Like a good meal requires a variety of textures, a good piece of jewellery also benefits from textural detail. We work with what we find, and often the gems we find benefit from the emphasis of opposites. This trilliant cabachon tourmaline was so plump, and so round, we felt the best solution was to set it with its opposite. The opposite is an encrusted three-sided dish, full of rubies, with black rhodium to ‘conceal’ the settings. We call it a homage to British sculptor Anish Kapoor’s work.
