Sticks from November
This was a pendant recently commissioned as a birth present for a child born in November (topaz being the birthstone). It is a cluster of blue topaz crystals, concealed a chenir for a chain, and also concealing a number of baguette and princess diamonds. These are only able to be seen by the mother when wearing it, and when feeding (she has a magnificent bosom, which it nestles into beautifully)
The piece is reminiscent of the ancient Roman symbol, the fasces, or bundle of sticks, which is an image that traditionally symbolizes summary power and jurisdiction, and/or “strength through unity”. Fasces frequently occur as a charge in heraldry.
